{"id":534,"date":"2009-03-27T08:33:13","date_gmt":"2009-03-26T21:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bronwynparry.com\/blog\/?p=534"},"modified":"2009-03-27T08:36:30","modified_gmt":"2009-03-26T21:36:30","slug":"congratulations-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bronwynparry.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/congratulations-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Huge congratulations to all the Romance Writers of America <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rwanational.org\/cs\/contests_and_awards\/2009_rita_and_gh_finalists_announcement\">RITA and Golden Heart Award finalists<\/a>, announced yesterday. <\/p>\n<p>A special shout-out and extra WOOO-HOOO to the Down-Under contingent:<br \/>\nIn the RITAs: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liliandarcy.com\/\">Lilian Darcy<\/a>, and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbarahannay.com\/\">Barbara Hannay<\/a> in the Contemporary Series Romance category; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christine-wells.com\/\">Christine Wells <\/a>in Regency Historical Romance; the amazing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stephanielaurens.com\/\">Stephanie Laurens<\/a> finalling <strong>three<\/strong> times in different categories; and NZ&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nalinisingh.com\/\">Nalini Singh<\/a> in the Paranormal Romance section. And in the Golden Heart, the contest for unpublished manuscripts, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanessabarneveld.com\/\">Vanessa Barneveld<\/a> has finaled in the Young Adult category.<\/p>\n<p>I think it&#8217;s fantastic that, despite our relatively small population, Australian (and NZ!) authors continue to do so well in these awards &#8211; the major international awards for the genre. <\/p>\n<p>The RITA and Golden Heart winners will be announced at a gala event at the conclusion of the Romance Writers of America national conference in Washington, DC, in July. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be cheering on the Aussies in spirit at least, if not in person. I&#8217;m not sure just yet whether I&#8217;m going to DC or not this year &#8211; since my workshop proposal wasn&#8217;t accepted, and since As Darkness Falls didn&#8217;t make it to the RITA finals, I&#8217;ll need to decide whether I want to spend several thousand dollars to go to the conference. Okay, I do <em>want<\/em> to &#8211; no doubt about that &#8211; but I&#8217;ll have to work out whether that&#8217;s best use of the funds at this point, and whether it&#8217;s the most important thing to fit into an already busy year.
